Let me get this out of the way. I am not a perfect husband, dad, and son. I yell at my wife, kids, and parents. Not all the time, but enough to make me feel like a jerk. I’ve been working on it and I still struggle with it.

These are the three things I do for my family.

Show appreciation

How would you feel if you’ve worked your butt off every day of the week just to put food on the table. And at the end of each day, someone comes up to you and say “thank you”. Pretty good right?

That’s what I want them to know. That I know that they are doing their best and I appreciate it. Every single day.

Saying something positive

How would you feel if regardless of how you performed, someone would say something positive about it instead of running you down? Pretty good right?

That’s what I want to tell them. Because I agree with Frederick Douglass.

It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.

Give encouragement

How would you feel when you are down and someone comes around giving you the encouragement that you need? Pretty good right?

That’s what I want to do for them. To be their source of positive energy.

If there is no struggle there is no progress

Like I said, I still struggle with these.

What about you? What are the things you’re committed to doing for your family?
