SEO—search engine optimization.

It was an area I did not pay much attention to at the start.

I thought, “I don’t need all these tricks because if my writings are good enough, people will find it.”

Basically I’m saying, “if I build it, they will come.”

I couldn’t be more wrong.

Seeking professional help

I’ve been suffering from depression for sometime now.

But in 2019, I decided to seek professional help.

My thoughts were, “if I can get myself fixed medically but I choose not to because of ego, then I’m stupid.”

And I’m glad I did.

Who would have thought that 2020 would be a difficult year. Had I not gotten professional help, I’m not sure how I’d be able to handle it.

First, a working definition of SEO.

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, which is the practice of increasing the quantity and quality of traffic to your website through organic search engine results.

A layperson’s interpretation would be:

Your audience wants to solve a problem or fulfill a desire. You can solve that problem or fulfill that desire. SEO helps you find each other.

With this understanding, you know that your audience are searching for a solution to solve their problems.

In their quest to search for a solution, they might use the search engines to find an answer.

At that moment, if your solution matches their search, it will appear on the first page of the search engine results page—SERP.

Now something magical could happen.

You are being introduced to your audience. Whether your audience are enchanted by you or not is entirely another story.

But first, are your content getting matched?
