Let’s face it.
We are all stressed to a certain degree.
Reports have placed job stress as the major source of stress.
During the pandemic, stress has certainly intensified, especially for the one-person business.
Being able to handle stress is one thing. Being perceived as being unable to empathize with others who are undergoing a stressful episode is another.
Be cool not cold
Our ability to handle stress is based on our experiences, competencies, and supporting environment.
We definitely do not want to be seen as cold to others in our community.
Here are three ways you can do it:
- Acknowledge the stress: Everyone is stressed about one thing or another. Brushing it away will only have stress return in another form. Using bravado to handle stress isn’t being macho about it. Instead, acknowledge the stress, get curious about it, and write it down.
- Teach others: There are different coping mechanisms for handling stress. While some choose to exercise, others may opt for a more ‘head-on’ method. Whatever the strategies, it helps to teach others how they can deal with it. More tools mean you do not have to see every stress as a nail.
- Show that you care: Many in our community are looking for someone who can empathize with them. By showing that you care alone can certain shift their mindset about your attitude towards their well-being. Show your partners and freelancers you care for them.
