Better Every Day

I love competing.

That is good.

And bad.

The good. You are constantly comparing yourself to someone who’s achieved what you want.

The bad. You are constantly comparing yourself to someone who’s achieved what you want.

Run your own race

When I’m out running, I would often find myself competing with other runners. Even if I don’t know them.

Sometimes I beat them.

Sometimes they beat me flat.

I used to feel lousy whenever someone outran me.

Then one day I realized the competition isn’t fair.

I do not know how when the other runner started his run or how long had he been running.

I do not know his condition. He could be a seasoned runner or he could be a weekend warrior.

Now I am wiser and I just run my own race.

Running and life

Just like running, making a comparison with others is silly.

Because we do not know the specifics of the other person.

Even if the other person is our contemporary, there are still differences between the two of you.

Choose to become better

These days, I’m only comparing myself today with myself yesterday.

Because as long as I am making progress day-to-day, I know that I am becoming better.

And becoming better is all I’m singularly focused on right now.

So, how did you do today compared to yesterday?
